"Ihe headmaster of the Shannon School, Mr. F. O. Rurtt, in his report to members of, the School Committee at their meeting on Monday evening, stated that the school roll for the month of November stood at 314 pupils, this being made up of 160 boys and 154 glrls. There had been two admissions and seven withdrawals during the month. The district nurse, Sister Macdonald, had carried out her routine inspection of pupils. "With the coming of warmer weather the school baths have been much in use and swimming instruction has begun," continued the report. "The school was closed on Wednesday, November 30, when the buildings were used as a polling booth for the general elections. "The annual judging of calves and laonbs took place on November 25, when a l&rge number of entries were presented. The Junior Red Cross stall, held in the grounds on this day, realised £7 11s, which was a very satisfactory eifort on behalf of the children, The money will be spent on food parcels for Britain. ■ "Though the generosity of Mrs. E.'L. Hyde, the pupils were shown road safety films by Patrol Oflicers Silverwood and Keenan in the Renown Theatre. With the approach of the holidays there will be increased danger of road acj cidents and the Automobile Association is making an effort to visit all schools at this time of the year to emphasise the rules' for road safe'ty, which are now considered a very importanfc part of the child's education.

"The November meeting of the Parent-Teachers' Association was very well attended and films were shown by officers of the Automobile Association. The next -meeting, which will be held on Monday, December 12, will be a picture evening for the purpose of demonstrating the school's new film projector. This will be the final meeting of the association for the present year. "The school will close for vacation on Friday, December 16, and will re-open on Wednesday, February 1, 1950. A break-up eeremony will be held on Thursday afternoon, December 15, when parents are invited to be present.
