Startling Allegations About Atomic Secrets
Received Sunday 7 p.m. WASHINGTON, Dec. 3. A Congressional investigation was ordered today into eharges that the late Mr Harry Ilopkins, who was President Roosevelt's closest confidant, helped Russia to get trunk loads of atomic secrets and materials in war time. Sonator Brien MeMahon ehairman of the joint Senate-House atomic energy committee suggested the investigation following a radio broadcast yesterday in which George Jordan, a former airforce major, asserted that he personally saw plane cargoes of atomic data material being shipped to Russia. Mr Jordan eleared Soviet lend-lease shipments at Great Falls, Montana, which was the jumping off point on the aerial supply route to Russia. Mr Jordan said Mr Hopkins ordered him by telephone to rush two shipments of uranium to Russia. He also linked Mr Hopkins to several suitcases which he said passed ^ through the Great Falls base in the custody of Russian c.onriers. Mr Jordan said he opened several of them and f ound one crammed with ' ' top atorn bomb secrets from— the Oakridge, Tennessee, project.
