The province is one of the two remaining mainland provinces which Communist regulars have not yet j invaded, the other being Sikang. Tra- . vellers from the capital, Kinming, predict that Yunnan will fall under Communist control shortly, possiblv vvithout a fight. They sa}r the Nationalist inltuence has been reduced to a few small areas while thousands of Communist gnerrillas are increasingly active. The Governor has become "politically sick" and has handed over his duties to subordinates. He sent his family to ITong Kong. Hundreds of Nationalist .officials are preparing to leave following the fall of Chungking in neighbouring Szechwan.
