MINERS AGREE TO WORK LONGER HOURS

Received Tuesday, 7 p,m. LONDON, Nov. 22. As the result of an appeal made by Mr. Sam Watson, president of. the Labour Party and genefal secretary of the Durham Miners' Union, 144 pits on the Durham coalfleld are now either working 6^ hour Saturday morning shifts or are working an extra nalf-hour on each week day shift. The result has been an increased f output of 27,500 tons weekly. Only slx collieries on the whole of the Durham field refused Mr. Watson's appeal to work longer hours. Expressing satisfaction at th.e result of his appeal, Mr. Watson said that meetings had revealed a new and better spirit in industry and that a deeper sense of responsibility was developing botli among the men and managements.
