U.N.A.'s Membership Shows Decrease

Membership had been at a somevvhau lower levei ! this year than chat of the previous year. Tnis was stattd by tne president, Mr. E. R. Wmkier, in his report to the annual meeting of tne Levin branch of the United Nations' Association of New Zealand, held recently. The mitf reason for this 'was the fact .nat some corporate members had oecn unabie to eontinue their > mtmbersnip. However, arrangernents had been made whereby corporate bodies wouid have honorary membersnip. This would \ make a considerable dift'erence to the' membership, add&d Mr. Winkler. The a&ociation had again sponsored an essay competition at the jdorowhen.ua vollege, continued -the president.. There had been fewer jntrams than on previous occasions out it had been felt that the iuandard of entries reeeived was .iigher than was the case last year. Fmancially, the association had not ftourished, said the president. The fact that members had not oeen prompt with the payment; of subscriptions was the main cause jf this. Mr. Winkler reminded members that unavoidable expenses were incurred .with the running of the organisation and expressed the nope that they would make prompt payment in the ncw financial year. The elecLion of officers was as ollows : — President, Mr. E. R. Winkler; vice-presidents, M^s H.,vi. Chapman-Conen and Mr. G T. ircus; secretary, Mr. I. W. Ramsden; treasurer, Mr. J. N. Macdon^ia; auditor, Mr. J. E. Fullarton; :cmmittee, Messrs. H>Harvey, J. Todd, W. L. Travers, J. Tomlinson, Rev. A. Salmond and Mesdames Bartholomew, Kirkcaldie and Tomlinson. At the conclusion of the official business the meeting was shown wo fihns. The first dealt with oc-; cupational therapy for crippled ;hiidren. The second, entitled 'Clearirig the Way," was a detailed alm showing the construction of .he United Nations' building in tfew York.
