Two Killed When Truck Leaves Road
NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 20. A man and woman, two of five occupants oi tne cao of a motor orucK retui-ning to Taumarunui from National Park shortly after 3 a.m. today, were killed when the vehicle struck the right hand railing of a dridge and plunged 15 feet into a Stream near Raurimu. They were; MRS. MYRA B1SHOP, a widow, of High Street, Taumarunui, and tne mother. of eight children, aged 42. JAML3 BRAITHWAITE, truck driver, of Taumarunui, married With four children, aged 40. The driver, Sharland Jackson, of Taumarunui, and a passenger, Mrs. Caroline McMinn, of Taumarunui, received only slight cuts and abrasions and were able to return to cheir homes but Mrs. Rita Woodmass, of Taumarunui, was taken to' the Taumarunui Hospital suffering; from shock and brpises. Her condi-'. tion tqnight was 'reported to be saoisfactory. When Mr. Jackson recovered from a blow on the head, he heard Mrs. McMinn calling and quickly moved ner and Mrs. Woodmass to safety. Mrs. Bishop was found unconscious but he co.uld not see Braithwaite in the darkness of the smashed cab. He hurried to Raurimu for assistance but rescuers were unable immediately to extricate Mrs. Bishop Who was lying huddled on top of Braithwaite. Both were dead.
