Cabinet Portfolios May Be Merged
WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. The portfolios of railways and transport are likely to be brought under one Minister if the Labour Government is returned at the General Election. This inl'ormation was given by the Minister of Railways (Mr Seinple) who is in Dunedin, in a telephone interview late last night. "We have been talking for some time about having portfolios alfecting transport all brought under on'e Minister," said Mr Semple. "There has been talk of having railways and transport generally administered by the Min ister of Transport." "1'ersonally," added Mr Semple, "1 am in favour of it. This has been discussed by Cabinet. We tliought we should not do it on the eve of the election, so decided to consider it immedi atelv the election is over it we are returned as the Government. "I think this is a step in the right direction," said Mr Bemple. "1 havt enough on my mind without the port folio of railways.
