Fanatical Raiders Wipe Out Whole Village
BATAVIA, Nov. 17. Eightv men, women and children, inhabitants of the village of Panggura gan, 10 miles from Cheribon,- were .massacred by fanatical Moslem Darul Islam guerrillas last Monday night, aecording •to military reports reacliing Batavia today. The village was eompleteiy destroyed by the Darul Islam raiders becausv the villagers asked for protection from the Republican and Dutch army t'orecs which pointly patrol the area in which the raiders are active. Army patrols found the village a fire-gutted ruin with mutilated bodies in the still warm ashes. Aecording to survivors, the raiders wore Dutch uniforms and were weicoined as protectors. The 200 raiders then revealed their identity • ,^ai,d opened iire with rifles before cldsing in with swords. The attack was the third by the Darul Islam in the district in the past week. Dutch and Republican troops are now engaged in rounding up the raiders. A report from West Java tonight says the mutilated body of an Indonesian Red Cross nurse, one of four kidnapped • by a Darul Islam band near Tasikrnalaja last week was found today in a rice field. Other nurses still missing are believed to have been slaiu.
