No Special Stamp Issue For Empire Games
DUNEDIN, Nov. 9. Disappointmonf is felt by New Zealand philatelists that there is not to be a special set of stamps to eommemorate the Empire Games and the oplnion has been expressed that the Government has missed a great opportunity. ' ' Surely if the holding of the Empire Cliaiiber of Commerce eonference in Wellington in 1936 was recognised by a special issue the allocation of the Empire Games was worth one, " a leading stamp collector saict todav. He added that even yet it was not too late to remedy the omission. -This could be done bjr over-printing say the Jd, 2d, 3d and 6d denominations of the current King George issne. There is a preeedent for this as the King Edward issue was over-printed for the Auckland Exhibition of 1913. This set comprised tlie 'd, 1 d, 3d and 6d, and the complete set is worth £10 at today 's prices. Tlie value of this as a souree o" revenue'for the Government could easilv be recognised, he added.
