Union Wants Return To Old Order
WELLINGTON, Nov. 9. Claiming that the recqnt amendment to the metal trades award and boiler makers' award had disturhed the equality of remuneration existing over a number of years for fitters and boilermakers, the New Zealand Boliermakers' Union souglit in the Arbitratior. Court today a return ,to the conditions ruling before 1948 when the pav for botli sets of tradesmen was equai. The union was appealing against the decision of Deputy-Judge Dalgish on an application by the New Zealand Federated Boilermakers', Iron and Steel, Sliip and Bridge Builders' Union for an amendment to the rates of wages payable under the boilermakers' award by inereasing Ihe mihimum rates for boilermakers from 3s lld to 4s per liour. Mr .7. R. Hanlon appeared for the ehuployers and Mr P. E. Warner for the. union. The Court reserved its decision.
