Coroner Says Child Was Murdered

Burrows) at tlie uiquest at Pukekohe today into the death at Ramarama on the night oi Oe tober 13 of Hugh Campbell Kirk, aged 29, a Publie Wprks employee, Joyce Winifred Kirk, aged 22, and Mary Joyce Kirk, aged 18 months.. All were b'ound dead dn October 14 in the bedroom pf their home. The Coroner found that they died from the effeets of poison gas generated from a powder dtrewn about the bedroom. The evidehce, he said, suggested that the powder had been deliberately distributed by the husband. "Kirk and his wife lived happily.together as far as I know, and had no aomestic or finaneial troubles," said Alan Reid, a farmhand, and brother of Joyce Kirk. John Chisholm Kirk, a brother of the dead man, said that Kirk was interested in beokeeping and skilled in the use of poisonous powder with which he killed foul-brooding bees.
