Record Entries For School Horticultural Show
The horticultural show, which is scheduled for Tuesday next, will reveal the result of the Levin School children's handicraft efforts for the year. The number of entries has reached record proportions, exceeding 300 in the various sections. So far the approximate entries in each of the sections read as follows: — Woodwork 150, decorative 88, sketch 36, design 31, poster 52, han'd weaving 26, native flora 19, project books 20 and needlework 8. These entries are all exclusive of those in the various sections from Horowhenua College and, further more, other schools in the district will swell the totals in all sections except woodwork, which is a district total. The display is to be staged in conj.unction with the Levin Horticultural Society's rose show, and a visit of inspection will be well worth while. Besides the gloripus exhibit of that perpetually loved bloom, the rose, visitors will see a striking collection of handwork of a particularly high standard. This is more noticeable in the woodwork section, where the exhibits cover an extremely wide range of artibles from display stands, picture stands, ash trays, fruit dishes, lamp stands, etc., to letter-boxes and step-ladders. Every article is of a utilitarian nature and will prove to the public the constructive nature of technical training. It is not very often that the public has an opportunity of witnessing such a grand array of art and handwork.
