Henry's Oaks Will Help To Beautify Levin
When King Henry Vni planted a row of oak trees, subsequentiy known as the King's Oaks, he wouid hardly have thought that he was providing for the future beautificaiion of Playford Park, Levin,' New Zealand. But strange to say that was exactly what he was doing, for a paper bag of acorns from those very trees lay on the local council's table last night, the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, stating that they had been presenied to the town by Mrs. J. M. Sullivan, wh'o recently arrived in Levin from England. Mrs. Sullivan, who is at present the guest of Mr. and Mrs. P. Young, of Seddon Street, Levin, says that the trees are in Dunton o-ree n, Kent, near Seven Oaks. /The King's Oaks in Dunton Green were said to have been P-anted by Henry VIII and originally there were about ten. Now there are only five. The council last night decided to thank Mrs. Sullivan for tne gift, which was greatly appreciated. The acorns will be propagated in a local nursery and in due course planted out in the borough, probably' at Playford Park and other suitable borough reserves. , ~ .
