Fines And Convictions For Traffic Offences

Several charges of exceeding the speed limit were heard in the Police Court, Levin, yesterday by Messrs J. S. Moir and G. Sweetman, J.P's. Charged With exceeding 30 m.p.h. in a heavy trade vehicle, Arthur Herbert Lee was fined £3. Court costs were 10s. 'in a heavy trade vfehicld, John 'Henry Matthews was fined £3. Court costs were 12s. On a further charge of failing to dip his lights defendant paid: a penalty of £1 and court costs 10s. Carrying a pillion rider on his' motor-cycle in contravention of the law governing vehicles fiisplaying L plates resulted in the conviction of William Mervyn Summerville. He was fined £1. Court costs were 10s. The inspector said that defendant had stated that "he had picked up a hiiehhiker on the road. Having no warrant of fitness for his vehicle cost James Curtis Macdonald 10s. Court costs were 12s. Charged with being in possession of liquor in the vicinity of the Ohau dance hall, Terence Alfre'd Aherne and Edward Gordon White, both of Otaki, were each fined £3 and court costs of 10s.
