Beautification Of Triangle Reserve Proceeds
A further step in, the beautification of the borough has been taken recently with the laying down by the Levin Borough Council of garden plots in the triangle of lawn at the corner of Cambridge and Bath Streets, land over which there has been mueh controversy in the past. A design suggested by the- Levin an'd District Beautifying Society has been largely used, the central plot being in the form of a large catherine wheel with smaller plots at strategic places throughout the area. Roses are the main motif, with small shrubs completing the plots.
The beautification of this area Is a moral victory for the society, which has long watched over this piece of land, and also the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, who has always been most outspoken whenever suggestions have been made that it be turned into a parking area for cars or buses. A large percentage of the plants used in the triangle gardens have been donated by proprietors of commercial nurseries at the request of the council. Gardens Looking Bright. The .Public Gardens are looking particularly invifing to passers-by these days and the grass and beds are in perfect condition, the lat-, ter showing very fine displays of colour. The rockefy around the memorial is also a blaze of colour and a tribute to the borough gardiner, who is kept very busy. With the advent of the warmer weather, the gardens are becoming popular with business people during lunch hours.
