WORK AT AUCKLAND WILL RE-START TODAY

Normal work will be resumed on the Auckland waterfront at 8 o'eloek tomorrow morning on the direction of ,the national executive of the Water Bide Workers' Union and for the first timo since Oetober 25 the Auckland un: ionists will accept non-union replacements for overtime tomorrow. The .Waterfront Industry Commission Will ■ consider the sulmnssions by the union aud employers on Monday on the over- • ti in e replacemet dispute. A representative of the shipping conipanies stated this afternoon that the employers would continiie. to dis- ; charge men if they left their" work witliout permission. The dispute began as a retaliatory move by the union against the conipanies' campaign to reduce ' ' spelling. ' ' The return to work will ensure the despatch by the Rangitoto of the last eousignment of Christmas food parcels for Britain, a company ofiicial stated. The Rangitoto will leave Auckland on Satur.day afternoon. Advice of the national executive 's decision was receivtd about 2.30 p.m. this afternoon. The branch was directed to resume normaJ work at 8 a.m. to morrow, and informed that iron-union replacements could be engaged at afternoons call. In view of the fact that S9 unionists were dismissed this morning | the Auckland branch would not agree ' to non-union replacements. Tonight the shipping conipanies tried wjthout sucI cess to mustcr non-unionists and no de1 velopments occurred. The idle ships, Huntingdon, Maui Pomare, Kaitoke and Kartigi, and many partv-working vessels will be manned tomorrow and all penalties will be cancelled. lt is expected that most of the 890 dismissed unionists will ue replaced. Although some geuenah cargo will have to be left. behind because of the dispute delavs tlxe iiuer Rangitoto will carry her full allocation of food pareels for Britain. A eousignment of 4(500 bags containing about 27,000 parcels is waiting loading.
