Easy Win For Delta In Victorian Derby
lieceived Sunday 5.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, Oct. 30. Delta, a lirm favoitrite, easily won the Victoria Derby at .Flemington today. He tipished strongly and appears to have an excellent i.chance in the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday. None oi those who finished hehind him is lil^ely to dpfeat him on Tuesday. Comie Court is sure to be a strong L'ancy for the Gup after his impressive win in the weiglit-for-agc MacKinnon Stakes today. He carries the sarnc weight in the Cup and the distanee is six i'urlongs farthor. Last year as a threo-ycar-old he finished just behind the placed horses in the Cup after winning the Derby so he should have no diliiculty in seeing out the journey. Carhon Copy ran hadly in the MacKinnon Stakes and is not to start in the Cup. Vagabond was another disappointment but Stamen, who tinished third and now drops to 7/8 in the Cup hus increased in popularity. He was eonsidered unluclty in the Caullield Cup and is sure to run well on Tuesday. The only doubt about him is vvhether he will stay the two miles. The New Zealander, King's itansom, was narrowly defeated by Foxzami in the llotham Cup and will now enter i-alculatious for the Cup. He failed in Sydney and this was his lirst start iu Melbourne. He is better suited in handicaps that weight-for-age eompany and his forrn today was his best sinee he arrived in Australia. Royal Tan, oue of the popular fancies for the Cup, ran poorly in the Hotham llandicap and he wriil have to improve eousiderably to have a chance on Tuesday. The weather was fine throughout and the going was good. Results are: — WAKEFUL STAKES, for three-year-old fillies, 1 mile. CII1CQU1TO (ine. L-llb penalty) 9.4 O.
