Watersiders Keeping Up On Their Jobs

AUCKLAND, Oet. 19. ~ Absenteeism on the Auckland waterfront has received a sharp check since Monday. More than 50 watersiders have been plaeed on three days' penaltjr since shipping company foremen, acting on instructions, have taken disciplinary action. Nobody seems to know how effective these measures have been against "spelling," a long established practice on the waterfront. There are signs, however, that a new order for the waterfront is on the way. Observers say the watersider^ are now showing more punetuality in resuming work after breaks and continuing until knock olf time.
