Watersiders Protest At Gaoling Of Sharkey
Received Wednesday, 9 p.m. SYDNEY,Oct. 19. Seven hundred watersiders were idle for an hour today as a protest against the gaoling of the general secretary of the Australian Communist Party, Mr. Sharkey. They were later persuaded by the president of the Sydney watersiders, Mr. J. Young, to abandon the stoppage. The wraterfront will be immobilised later, however, for a half-day or day as required. A number of workers has signed a petition calling for a stopwork meeting to discuss the sentence and frame demands for a revision of the Crimes and Arbitration Acts.
