Otaki Golfers Play Popular Annual Match
The annual Captain v. Secretary . match was played by . the Otaki Golf Club on Saturday, a heavy westerly wind making conditions difhcult. The match resulted in a win for the Captain's team by' nine games to four, with three halved. Results with Captain's team players mentioned first were: — E. H. G-ray lost to J. Winterburn, A. D. T. Webster and Z. Gray all square, W. D'Ath beat J. D'Ath, C. Atmore lost to A. Harper, H. Derham beat R. Knight, S. Elliott beat C. Enoka, P. Bryden beai N. Gray, J. Cooksley lost to F. Dunsdale, N. Willis beat P. Willis, B. Rhodes beat D. Stewart, G. Gimblett beat H. Brunton, E. Jensen and G. Scarf all square, F. Neate and L. Gimblett all square, A. Wilson beat H. L. Browne, W. Jepson lost to Litfcle, D. G. Sutherland beat W. Rzoska. The match was followed by a dinner and a most enjoyable evening followed. Other matches played during the weekend were: — Intermediate championship final: P. B. Bryden beat N. Gray. Final Len Shepherd Memorial: A. Harper beat W.
D'Ath. No organised match will be arranged for next weekend. . The Levin club is hol'ding its annual ournament over the uhree days of Labour weekend and Otaki players are urged to support this. The closing of the 1949 winter season will take place on October 29. Mixed foprsomes over 14 holes will be played, the draw for partners to be. made at 1.15 p.m. After the presentation of prizes, the usual long-driving and approach and putt competitions will be held. This will be' a general tea day.
