Police Assistance Sought To Stop Vandalism

'removed and they appear. de'termlned to smash anything in sigftt,-' This startling report on recerit happenings- at ..the Tasman Beach Pavilion . was made to the Otaki Borough Council's meeting on Wednesday night. Cr. E. J. Cook advised that residents had telephoned him ahd named boys acting in an offensive manner, while Cr. G. McKinley stated that boys had "disappeared immediately" when they saw him approaching. He was sure they were "up to no good." Regret was expressed that the state of affairs had existed for some time, and the assistance of the police in apprehending the varidals is to be sought. Work At Camp BLK Cr. J. L. Retter advised that the r'emoval of the sheds and conveniences from Rangiuru to the new Tasman Beach Motor Camp was well in hand. He reported that the framework for the new shed to provide hot water, 'heating and possibly bach accommodation, as well as showers, had been erected. • The Mayor, Mr. C. F. Atmore, expressed the thanks of the council for the keen practical interest Cr. Retter was taking in the work. The purchase of a 300 gallon Diesel boiler for the camp was authorised. Copies of letters forwarded by the' Bureau of Industry to two applicants for petrol pump installations at Tasman Beach advised that the installations were not considered to be in the economic interests of the induslry, and could not be-granted. Councillors ,considered that benzine should be available at t'he beach during the holiday period. It was decided to write to the bureau, asking that the decision be reviewed because of the development taking place in the area. Cheques covering the purchase of three sections, and an application for transfer of a fourth section were forwarded to the council by Messrs Harper, Atmore and Thomson. Consent to the seal of the transfer was given, and the town clerk. Mr. Alex. Wilson, reported that only three sections remained to be disposed of in the Tasman Beach Motor Camp subdivision. An application for a subdivision, on behalf of Mr. T. J. McChesney, was received and approved.
