XEW PLYAIOUTH, Oct. 12. Tlie right to exaniine and cheek the eontents of any veliicle using wharves under the eontrol of harbour boards, is to be sought by the Harbours Association of Xew Zealand in an endeavour to reduce pillaging of goods. The association decided at its annual conference at Xew Plymouth today to take steps to have the Harbour Act amended to confer this power. upon harbour boards. The exelusion of certain persons was discussed at the last conference of the association and as a result the Minister of Alarine, Air. Haeket, wrote the association on May 15, 1949, advising that no progress had been made in the matter and suggesting that it be discussed at this year's conference with, if possible, f actual information of cases where persons convicted of pillaging in one centre transferred elsewhere and indulged in the same practice. iie thouglit a further resolution by the association, verified by actual cases, Uiiglit be of advantage to him in endeavouring to make progress with the appropriate authorities. Ah\ W. R. Clark (Otago) said he refused to produce speeific cases. He discussed the matter at the last conference on the general principle and considered it should be dealt with on the same lines.
