Good News For Great War Amputees
WELLINGTON, Oct. 13. The Government has decided to extend the interest free loan of £200 to assist in the -purchase of motor cars to approved ex^servieemen of an 85 per cent locomotive disability from World War I. This assistance has been available for some time to similar cases fvom World War II, the loan becoming a grant after the recipient has been in possession of the car for two years. "I am sure the advice from the Minister of 'Finance, Mr. Nash, to this effect will fle very welcome news to war amputees thro.ughout New Zealand," said Mr. • C. E. Butcher, Dominion President of the New Zealand War Amputees' Association, today. "Of course, there are anomalies such as the amputees with only a 75 per cent locorqqtive disability plus 25 per cent or more disability from other wounds," added Mr. Butcher. "My association is engaged in a survey of such cases with a view to placing a poliey before the New Zealand Patriotic Fund Board. It fs hoped that the board will supplement the Government grant as at p-resent in some cases and will agree to assist such disabled men as do not come within the scope of Government assistance."
