Rotary Governor Visits Levin Club
Paying his official visit to the Levin Rotary Club on Monday was the Governor of the 40th (New Zealand) District of Ro.ary International, Mr. R. Merrett Wilkinson, of punedin. He was guest speaker at the club's luneheon, which was attended by every mernber with the exception of Mr. A. Bonner, who is at present on holiday in Scotland. Welcoming Mr. Wilkinson, the club's president, Rev. H. S. Kings, referred to the inspirauon and enthusiasm which he had brought to the recent district assembly in Timaru. The' club regarded it as a very great pleasure and privilege to have his visit so early in his year of office. Mr. Wilkinson said that he had now visited half the clubs in his district and a gratifyjng fealure had been the warm fellowship which existed in them. He had also been impressed with the amount of work which clubs were •doing in their communities. Referring to this years assembly and convention of Rotary International, held in the United States. Mr. Wilkinson said that his attendarice had been a unique and memorable occasion. It had given him a full realisation of the tremendous task which Rotary was accomplishing and what was ahead of it in the next decade or two. Eighty-eight nations had been represented at the gathering and the friendship which 'had existed despite the difficulties of language had shown the potentialities of Rotary in promoting international understanding. A vote of thanks, proposed by the vice -president, Mr. H. Black, was carried by acclamation. In the evening a club assembly was held at which Mr. Wilkinson discussed Rotary subjects with members.
