New Marching Team Makes Its Debut

Reports that a girls' . junior marching team had been 'formed at Waikanae provfd to be well founded when -on1 Friday last a dance held to ini;roduce the Huia ' team was largely attended^ , and' proved. an ouostanding success,! : both socially and financially. • Thfe' support that was f orthcoining was ' most encouraging to the team and its instructor, Mr: C. L. Davis, and the financial result means 'that the team is away to an excellent start. Volunteers had worked tirelessly in arranging the unique decorations. An outstanding teature was two huia birds standing out amidst a hackground of soft greenery, wi'bh black and white (the teams colours) streamers predorninant in other parts of the hall. Gracefully attirea in simple white evening frocks, team members were the centre of attraction. Among the guests was Mr. W. R. Jack, president of the Horowhenua Marching Associa'tion, and during the evening each member of the newly-formed team wa.s presented with a> bouquet by Miss Jennifer Jack. Supper arrangements were in the capable hands of "voiunteer helpers and with support promised from the district, which covers a fairly large area, contimied success for tfie team' in its venture seems assured.
