Price Control Does Not Apply To Rates
WELLINGTON, Oct. 6. . The Price Tribunal announced today that notice would be gazetted as soon as possible exempting rates and charges fixed by local authorities, with certain specified exeeption, from the operations of the Control of Prices Act, 1947. The Price Tribunal will continue to exercise jurisdiction over prices fixed by a local authority for commodities such as gas, electricity and milk and where a local body engages in wholesale or retail trade such as the sale of gas or eleetrical appliances, conditions covering such trade will remain the same as for ordinary traders. Water rates, wKether ealculated as a flat charge or as a charge for quantities actually used, sanitation rates, harbour fees, cemetery charges, hall hire and similar charges, will therefore be determined in future by the local authority without- reference tq the Price Tribunal.
