School Committee Meets

The Otaki .State School Committee held its monthly meeting on Tuesday night, when Mr. H. Taylor presided over an attendance which comprise'd Messrs H. B. Edhouse, L. G. Gimblett, A. Parrant, N. Taylor, W. Wilson, M. W. Anderson (a new appointee) and the headmaster, Mr. O. H. E. Yates. The headmaster's report was received and approved, a,nd after the matter had been . freely discussed it was agreed that the erection of a learners' swimming pool be proceeded with at the earliest possible date. Representations are to be made to the Education Board for the forwarding of plans. The headmaster reported that the- average roll for September was 425, and the grading and staffing of the school for 1950 would as a result remain the same as for the current year. The school was now fully staffed, Mr. R. Foster having commenced relieving duties during September. Inspectors had visited the school during the last week of September. ,• - The' contractors- had completed their work on the new rooms., Considerable improvements had been ma'de during the month in tidying up and resetting out areas around the school buildings. "Much work has been carried out in the school gardens and these are in good conditioa," said Mr. Yates. "Practicaily the whole area has now been cleared and levelling, cultivation and, planting will sooh be completed. "There are . 11. calf entries and 12 home gafdens..
