Local Horses Fared Well At Otaki Meeting
Otaki-trained horses fared very well at the Otaki Maori Racing Club's recent meeting and secured a total of £2785 in stakes as well as trophies. On the first day wins by Royal Cambria, Lady Myrtle and Bhutan, a second by Blue Sea!, a tliird by Parker and a fourth by Qrey Arch garnered £1375, with the win of Lady Myrtle rewarding her owner-trainer with two fine trophies also. The second day result. was. even better. Wins by Kainga, Blue Sea! and Bhutan, s.econds by Merry Robin and Flying Colours, a third by The Stormovik anc: fourths by Denote and Avenger brought the total stake money earne'd during-the day to £1410. Leading horseman was D. Harris with three wins. Two wins were secured by C. Bowry, J. McFarlane and R. Dulieu, with K. Lawrence, R. E. Page, W. Eales, W. Aitken, W. Reid,' W. Rout and J. Bowness each riding one winner. ' Training honours were shared by W. McEwan, Otaki, who led in Bhutan each day, the only double winner at the meeting, and E. C Parker, Aiyaptxhi,' Who won the las' two race's on ' the first day. S. Anderson, J. Smith, K. Webster, G. Walton, W. L. Johnson, W. J. Bromby, T. Webster, C. J. Thomson, D. Burgess, N. R. McKenzie. L. Dulieu and G. W. New each led in one winner. Besides supplying the only double winner at the meeting, Otaki stables took the lion's share of the stake money attached to the big race each day, Lady Myrtle and Blue Seal fllling first and second berths the first day, with Blue Seal and Merry Robin in the major places the sec.ond day and Avenger also sharing the money. Tax paid to the Government as a result of the two day meeting amounted to the "trifling" sum of £13,241 3s ld.
