New Records At Australian Wool Sales
Received Fridav, 12.10 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 7. The wool saies at Geelong and Brisbane are revealing rising prices _ancL increased participation by American buyers. The top price in Australia this season of 108.5d per lb. was paid by an American for six bales of superfine Merino stird wool at Geelong. The first strong American buying for superfine Merinos since devaluation brought a rise of 2.5 per cent. on recent prices. Brokers said that the top making descriptions of all wool -sold at the highest prices ever seen in Australia. The Americans were the strongest buyers, with good support from Russian and Japanese interests. At Brisbane the average wool values reached a record and whe-n the saies are completed the average is expected to be higher than the previous hest average of £77 4s Id for greasy wool recprd.ed last Jannary, were 5 tQ ,7,5 p_er.
cent. higher than on the opening day on Monday, when the niarket was state'd to be 5 per cent. up on last week's closing rates in Sydney. ;i
