College Request To Leave Horowhenua Rugby
Seeking petmission to play next season in the competitions of the Wellington Secondary Schools' Association, a letter was received from the Horowhenua .College Club at this week's meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby Union's management 'committee. The president, Mr. -R. -L. Robinson, remarked that he was not in favour of the proposal. The Horowhenua union wanted the college team in its competitipn, he said. "We owe the college a -good deal for its contribution to our rugby, ■but at the same time the college owes Horowhenua rugby something." Mr. A. V. Chappell, the college delegate on the" committee, explained that the college wished to extend its association with other secondary schools playing every Saturday. , ■ In reply to questions, Mr. Chappell agreed that if permission was granted it would mean disaffiliating with the' union as the college would then be playing under' the association. The change would involve travelling on' alternate Saturdays. It would be a good thing for the college to have inter-school games as -the union received the benefit later, commented Mr. E. J. Cook. However, he Wondered if parents would be agreeable to the amount of travelling involved and also the expehse of it. Mr. Chappell replied that the proposal had already been put to parents and they were aimost 100 per cent behind it. On the motion of Mr. D. J. Oliver, the matter was held over until next Season, Mr. Chappell recording his vote against the decision.
