Institute Garden Circle At "Castlehill"
Accepting a kind invitation by Mrs. G. Walton to hold the September meeting at . her home, members of the Otaki Institute Garden Circle met recently and journeyed to Rahui Road by cars. The day being perfect, a most enjoyable time was spent viewing the many attractive and well laid out flower beds, followed by an hour of roaming through the native bush, where tree ferns and palms grow in abundance. Sidetracks veer off and many unexpected and interesting spots are thus located. The party then returned to thq house, where afternoon tea was served in the spacious lounge and' the brief business of the circle's meeting was disposed of. Mrs. Walton kindly judged the best flower and shrub entries, a.nd' announced her award's as follows: — Best flower: Miss A. Smith 1, Mrs. A. Hunter 2. Best shrub: Mrs. J. Mudge 1, Miss Smith 2. Mrs. C. Robinson was the winner of a further competition. A look over the beautiful modern home followed, and members next accepted an invitation by Mr. "Walton to view the horses and stables adjoining, the horses having all been brought in for the night. The many beautiful creatures that are the pride of the owner of "Castlehill" won the admiration of all, their shining coats and healthy bloom revealing the wonderful condition of the animals, a striking testimony to the care and attention bestowed on them. Prior to the gathering dispersing, Mrs. A. Hunter extended a very hearty vote of thanks to the day's host and hostess for a truly enjoyable outing, and for the use use of their home.
