Much Sickness Occurs On Migrant Ship

Received Wednesdav 7.45 p.m. ^ SYDNEY, Sept. 28. When the migrant vessel Skaugum arrived at Sydney today, many children were reported to be ill and city ainbulances were mobilised to take them to' hospital. The Skaugum left N&TlOs xjn September 1 with 1600 displaced pqrsons aboard and was under me'fligM examination on arrival at Sydney for almost live hours. The children removed from the ship are sufTering mainly from measles and gastrocntoritis. They were examined on the ship by a Commonwealth health officer and an International Refugeo Organisation medical officer. Seventeen children were sent to the Prince Henry Hospital (6ydney79 infectious diseases institution) and 37 were sent on a special migrant train to the Bathurst migrant camp, 100 rhil6B wcst of Sydney. Their carriage waa eealed off from tho rost of the train. Migrants on the ship said the inddence of sickness on the voyage was very high and the children suffered severely in the Red Sea where a nkrainian baby died.
