WELLINGTON, -Slept. 20. Mr. T. P. Paikea (Northern Maori) gave notice in. the House of Itepresentatives today, to ask the Minister of Justice whether he would inquire 'into the statement of Mr. ' Harley, S.M., r>Who,^rn"explaining' certain remarks made when dealing with a case of wifebeating, was alleged to have said that his reniarks were addressed only to ' ' primitive ' 1 Maoris in isolated places where wife-beating was "normal."' "Will the Minister reque'st th^ Magistrate either to produce evidence of these soealled wife-beatings and to substantiate the sweeping charge that this is the normal practice 6r to withdraw this serious allegation against the Maori people and to make such amends as the circumstances may warrant?" asked Mr. Paikea.
