Noronic Death Roll May Be Lighter
Received Tuesday, 12.22 a.m. OTTAWA, Sept. 19.. • With the known ciead at 121, hope grew faintly today that the total deaths iri the Noronic fire would notreach the 200. mark predieted earlier. Red Oross offieials expressed the belief that 90 per cent. of the 84 persons unaccounted for, would "be, found safe at home in the United States. One or two of those believed dead already. have turned up alive and appeals are being made in United States cities for survivors to come forward and report their Safety. Several investigations into the fire have opened, including one ordered by the Department of Transportation, Ottawa; A minor fire broke out on the stern
of the- Noronic yesterday but was quickly extinguished. - Five divers will.descend again today to continue the search for bodies. It is expected the hull will then be sealed and purnped out to permit a closer search. Meanwhile grieving relatives arrived by six special trains from different parts of the United States to identify relatives and friends but by last night only 36 were identified.
