Rise In Price Of Gas To Be Sought

Thsi price of gas fri Levin will be raised from Is l»d to Is 3d per 100 f eet if the Levin Borough Council's application for an increase of lid per 100 feet is approved by the Price Tribunal. At last night's meeting of the council it was deeided to approach the tribunal basing the case for the rise on the heavier annual charges which the gasworks has to ' meet through the recent increased price of coal and higher wage scales for employees at the works. It was also deeided to seek an increase of £1 per ton on the px*ice of coke. The present price of coke ^old at the gasworks is £3 10s a ton. - It, was pointed out that the charges for these commodities in Levin Was lower than in most other centres retailing gas. The last application for an increase on the price of gas in Levin was made in March, 1948, when the council sought an increase of 2d per 100 feet and was allowed ljd.
