Battler For Maternity Home Retires From Board

The resignation of Mr. A. J. Gimblett, a Horowhenua County Council representative on the Palmerston North Hospital Board, was received by the council at its monthly meeting yesterday. The Palmesrcon . North Hospital Board, in a letter to the council, sought a further nomination to fill the vacancy until the elections next year. The chairman of the council, Mr. A. M. Colquhoun, said that it was with deep regret that the council noted Mr. Gimblett's resignation. Unfortunately, • Mr. Gimblett had been unable to continue owing to health reasons. He had represented the county well and truly, and • was a very keen board member. Cr. D. K. Guy said that there had been no bigger battler for the county than Mr. Gimblett. He had done considerable work in pushing for the maternity home in Levin and it was a great pity that he would not be on the board when that hospital was opened. High praise for Mr. Gimblett's work on the board was also forthcoming from Cr. J. D. Aitchison. It was decided to send Mr. Gimblett a letter of appreciation of his services. Regarding a replacement on the board in the interim, Mr. Colquhoun suggested that consideration should be given to the appoint"hient of Mr. F. H. Hudson, the county clerk, as he was most qualified and was also an elector. It would be for the ultimate benefit of the county if Mr. - Hudson had a period of office on that body and could see the funetioning of a hospital authority. Other councillors supported this suggestion. Mr. Hudson said he would be happy to meet with the council's wishes and1 would be.appreciative of an opportunity of observing the methods of such a body. It was decided that Mr. Hudson be, appointed as representative on .the board.
