Levin Next For Maternity Home Loan
Fielding had put up a great fight for 15 years to get a maternity home and during that period the costs had risen steadily uniil now they were more than doubled, said Mr. A. M. Colquhoun, chairman of the Horowhenua County Council, at its monthly meeting. He was referring to a letter from the Palmerston ' North Hospital Board, which stated that it was proposed to seek a loan for the erecoion of the maternity hospital at Feilding, the amount to be £66,000 for a 20-year period at an interest rate of 3£ per cent. The letter added ■ that with the stabilised rate the proposal .would not at present increase the hospital rate in the area. "Before the end of the current fmancial year the boaTd would advance a further loan proposal for the proposed maternity home in Levin. In advising the council to give the proposal support, Mr. Colquhoun also expressed the hope that it would not be long before the loan proposal in- regard to Levin's maternity home would be forthcoming. It was decided to -support the scheme.
