Express Steamer Delayed At Lyttelton

- CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 12. 0 Serious trouble in the generators delayed the sailing of the intey-Island steamer express Rangatira from Lyttelton till 11 o'elock this e-vening. There are 765 passengers on the ship. The Rangatira is a turbo-eleetric v'essel and the .generators >provide the- motive power. The full extent of the trouble ' apparently was not discovered till ■ shortly before the ship was Teady to sail about 8.45 p.m. after the arrival of the Limited Express train from Invercargill for which the Rangatira is held. The repair work took longer than was expected. The estimated time of arrival of the Rangatira at Wellington had not been announced when the ship left Lyttelton. It may depend on the engines ' performance at sea.
