Australia As Arsenal Of British Air Force

' The Sunday Herald's Oanberra rorrespondent tells of a strong British move to make Australia the arsenal for the mass production of new types of jet propelled fighter and bomber aircraft, and states .that the plan incolves the spending of millions of pounds in Australia. British and Australian authorities envisage the creation of a British Commonwealth'pool of the most modern military aircraft in a location proteeted against surprise attack. Service experts advise that Australia would be an ideal place to build up this force. All the British Pominioris will be consulted and asked to contributr to the cost before the plans are completed. The correspondent adds that tests are already being made in greatest secrecy at Pisherman's Bend, Victoria, of new and revolutionarv types of fighter and bomber pla,nes designed in Britain. If successful these will be the prototypes of a vast Empire air force probably located in eastern or southern Australia.
