Headmaster Reviews Work At School
"At the monthly meeting of the Shannon School Committee, held on Monday evening at the school, the headmaster, Mr.- F. O. Burt't, reported that the school roll stood 3-t 325 pupils. There • had been eight boys and nine girls admitted since the last committee meeting. The attendance for the month of August averaged 138 boys and 130 girls. "During the month Miss M. K. Gardner, who has been in charge of the school dental clinic, relinquished' her duties and moved on promotion to Leyin," continued the report. "Her successor, Miss S. V. Gardner, who was until recently at the pre-school clinic at Petone, took up her duties at Shannon on August 19.. "The usual routine inspection of pupils was carried out by the district nurse, Sister Macdonald, during the month and the director of dental hygiene also paid a visit to the dental clinic in August. Offieers of the Wellington Automobile Association paid* another visit to the school and filmed the school road patrols in. the various departments of their work. The i film is being made for the showing to the schools and public in order to demonstrate what is being done in schools to educate children in the principles of road safety. "The August meeting of the Parent-Teachers' Association "took the form of a social evening and was well attended."
