19. Received Tnesdav. 7 p.m. LOXDOX, Sept. 6. The Oanadian delegation to the Washington fmancial talks, is likely stronglv to oppose devaluation of the sterling and to iirge Ainericans not to cut Marshal aid to Britain and Enrhpe, savs the Ottawa correspondent of the "Manchester Onardian. At the same time the Canadians will nnt range Uiemselves nnreservedlv on Britain 's side. The British delogation will fmd Ihe Canadians jnst as critical as the Ainericans of snmc policies of tho Attlee Government and thev will also tind that the Canadians hold out no hope* of anv fnrther British relief from Oenndian dollar loans. The Canadians have boen greatlv distnrlied l\v recriminations between Britain and the United States and hope to fill the role of honesf brokers of eonciliation during the Washington talks. Xevertheless, thev will have soieetliina to sav about the failnre of sorne British exporters to take advantiige of their opportunit ies in the Oanadian niarket and their inadequate recognition of its special demands. The Oanadians will argue that the onlv alternative to eontinued American fl'ifineial help for Britain and Western Eurolie, is a inoditb'ation of Aineri^an trade policy which wnnld enable Britain and Europe to sell more t.o America. The Canadians will tell the British delegation .iust as franklv as the Amerir.ns. that they will he wise to postpone an.y fnrther exneriments in nationalisation and to examine the possibility of economies in their social security programme. They will also urge Britain to disent.mgle itself from t network of bilateral trade pacts in which it is now enmeshed.
