The shortage of recruits for the Coldstream Gunrds is so acute that men who ara onlv partiallv trained ara Iiciii'j sotit overseas, and othor.s who ara retained on guard diities in England ara linding it ditlicult to obtain suffieient breaks from night duty. Tlie officer commanding the rogiment, Oolnnel F.. R. TTill, said during a regimental dinner at Reading that recruits wero receiving onlv 12 of the initial 1(5 weeks' training, and had to ,ioin overseas drat'ts hefore they were fullv trained.
