.'•The August mee(ting of the. Poroutawhao Women's Institute at which there was a smaller attendance than usual, was presided over by Mrs. Scott. Apologies were received from Mesdames Speirs, Taylbf, Stewart, Hewitt and Miss Hewiit. An invitation was received from Foxton Institute to attend their birthday party. The day's m'otto read by Mrs. Sutcliffe was "The first hour of the morning, is the rudder of the day." The foll call, a household mishap, caused much amusement. Before afternoon tea was served by the hostesses Mesdames Kilsby and Sutcliffe, Mr. M. A. Nixon, of Palmerston North, gave a most fnstructive talk on adult e'ducation. The competition results were as follows: — Bloom, Mrs. Scott 1 Mrs. Sutcliffe 2, Mrs. Periny 3; Shrub, Mrs. Sloan 1, Mrs. Penny 2, Mrs. Lumsden 3; booties, Mrs. Carle 1, Mrs. Lumsden 2, Mrs. Linwar d 3.
