Earning high praise from the adjudicator -when it secured first place -ih the eomedy section of the Wellington Federation of Women's InstituteS' drania ffestival reeentiy, the ; Levin W.I.'s play, "Mrs. Methuselah," took secotrd equal in the Biitish Drama League's festival for. the Manawatu area, held in, Palmerston North last week.-: The adjudicator this time wdte Mrs, K, Moynihan, of Nelson, who said of .the play that it was certainiy an-. achievement for the Levin W.I: drama- circle considering that it was . pitted against very , strong : ceams. It was also difiicult to compete with comedy against good drama, and the players were at a diSadvdntage in not being familiar with the stage as many of the others were. Commenting on the players, the adju&icators 'described "Mrs. Methuselah" (Bessie Anderson) as Stn. outstanding character. , She iimd Mris. Ladslove (Elsie Pickering-) very much indeed. Suckie .(Gladys Hudson) was to be compliifiented .on the way she had sUStained - her adenoidal cold all through the play without Iosing elarity.. ,The play generally had oeen performed with - splendid team work and audibility and fcfempo • had been very good thrbu'ghout. Altogether it was an excellent performance, eoncluded the adjudicator. . The winning play of the festival was^ the Manawatu Repertory Socibty's "Jezebel." Levin W.I.'s "Mrs., " Methuselah" ■ was seeond equal. "With the Palmerston Norlh Little Theatre Society's play, "The PriSon Across The Street"— a yery tfense • drama. "Mrs. Methuselah" will again be presented at the College Hall, Levin, on Wednesday, August 31. The • box plans are open at Stannard's bookshop. Half the procee'ds will be devoted to the Red CroS s Society's food for .Britain parcels fund.
