83,000 Miners "Out" In Britain
Received Tuesday, 10.35 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 22. A strike by a few hundred men who operate Pit cages in coal mines has thrown many British mines out of production and thousands of men are idle. In the Yorkshire area 63,000 miners are affected and 20,000 Lancashire miners are idle. The pit winder.s' stoppage was staged, against official union advice, to enforce a demand for higher wages.
