Medical Officer Resigns
^ WHANGAREI, Aug. 19. Dr. J. L. Newman, Medical Officer of Health for Northland, has resigned from the Health Department. Dr. Newman said today that he had "found it impossible to do any good work because of the bureaucratie system which afiows no initiative to the Distriet Health Office." Another reason was that the Official Secrets Act would not let him, divulge.. anytjimgj,(he. knew,.P.t departmental work. A further reason, he said, was because "prof essional qualifications and experience have proved no advantage in the Public Service. I have had some ideas on the development of New Zealand's health service, but no action has been taken."
