Spate Of Births At Zoo
WELLINGTON, August 16. A spate of births has turned the Wellington Zoo into a nursery during the past week. A young lioness )liae given birth to a cub, four kangaroos are carrying young in their pouches, two emns are sitting for the first time in seven years and live wallabies are proud mothers. " Every thing happens at once," said the curator, Mr. C. J. Cutler. The first lion cub to be born in the Wellington Zoo for at least 15 years, is 12 inches long nose to tail. There is some doubt whether the enm eggs are fertile as they are the first clutches from the particular birds. One is disinterested in motherliood so the other is doing all the sitting. Of the four young female kangaroos, two are hopping in and out of their mothers' pouches -but the others are still entirely dependent on maternal transport. __
