Band Gives Pre-Contest Recital

A musicai treat - of an. hour's iuration was given by the levin MDunicipal Band and its supporters in -the Regent Theatre on Sunday night, It was a prelude to the band's appearanee at the forthsoming contest and those fortunate enough to be present thoreughly enjoyed the programme. , There was a fair attendance and8 each item was received enthusiasi:ically. The outstanding number was a selection from the. opera "Zampa," which the band rendered with an 3xpression, tone, colour and technique which was highly creditabie. Other items by the band included the marches, "Nut Grove," "Konellar Hall" and "The Wanderer," and the hymns, "Sunset" and "Holy, Holy, Holy." Mrs. G. Hesp was heard to adadvantage in "The Lord's Prayer" and as an encore "I'll Gather Lilacs." ihe fine baritone voice of Mr, A. R, Woodmass was well suited to "The F.oral Dance" and "Just a Song at Twilight," while he sang "Galway Bay" by special 'equesc. Mr. J. Evers was heard n a delightful vio,in soio, "I'll Valk Beside You" and as an en~ ;ore "Londonderry . Air." The ac,ompanlst was' Mr. H.- L. Jenkins. During the evening Mr. R. A. Frederikson thanked United Theatres, Ltd., for the free use of the theatre for the function and also the theatre staff and the assisting artists. He extended good.wishes go the band for success in the contest.
