AUCKLAND. August 10. ^When the Minister of Finance, Alr. Nash, said in London last month that he would seelr an immediafe increase in New Zealand imports from Britain, he was speaking in general terms. This has been explained by the Minister in a letter to the BureauNpf Importers which sent him a telegram on his return to the Dominion inqtiiring the nature of the extra goods for which import licenees would be granted. ('The reference meant that we did plan in future, owing to the nonavailability of dollars, to import more goods from the United Kingdom than in the past," said Mr. Nash in his | reply. "Detailed schedules will be prepared by the Customs Department mainly in conneetion with 1950 importations. As soon as these are availalDle, I will arrange for you to be advised and for t'hem to be published in the Press."
