Horse Club Elects Its Officers

The Otaki and District Horse Club held its annual meeting in the Commercial Gardeners' Rooms, Otaki Railway, recently when Mr. D. C. Blake (president) occupied the chair. There was a representative attendance of members. The financial stabement and president's report were read and adopted. Special thanks were offered to all who had helped in making the club's annual sports meeting such an outstanding success, and the favourable conduct of the meeting and apparent public apprecia'ion were considered gratifying. The erection of permanent buildings oh ' the "sitfeJ hiko"' "S^w^k" zealous band Of volunteer workers accomplish much towards the smooth r.unnihg of the meeting and thanks were tendered in this direction also. The president said he considered that sports meetings were a necessary part of the life of a rural community, adding tnat the cluh welcomed the co-operation of all interested in any way in fostering such gatherings. Thanks to two highly successful meetings the club is in a position to continue to cater for the best class of competitors, and numerous suggestions for further , advancement were discussed. The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron: Mr. W. F. Bills; president: Mr. D. C. Blake; vice-presidents: Messrs E. Cobb, E, Cunningham, W. McBeth, J. Puti, J. Quinn and A. Savell; club captain: Mr. T. L. Mansell; secretary: Mr. R. Bills; delegates to . associated sports bodies meetings: Messrs Blake, G. Bradbury and Mansell. The appointment of the various committees was left over until the club's next flxture draws nearer. The club's ' thanks to the owners of the porperty on which the annual sports meetings are held for permission to erect an additional gate, thereby enabling competitors and the public to be admitted by separate entrances, is to be forwarded.
